We Hold These Truths

We Hold These Truths

If you are a member of Congress or the State governments who approved this latest change, what the blazes where you thinking? Or maybe you didn’t even take the time to read the changes before you cast your vote to violate the rights of the people without regard or thought of the consequences? How could you think authorizing the federal Department of (in)Justice to collect DNA samples from people who are merely alleged to have committed a crime, was not a violation of their Constitutional rights?

Enemy of the State

Enemy of the State

The last ten days have been a time of tremendous revelations regarding the federal government. I have reached the conclusion most Americans have been living under an illusion they are free. The illusion their Constitutional rights are still in place. During the last ten days those illusions have been shattered for me. The blinders have been removed and I see the ugliness of tyranny clearly.

Weathering The Storm.

Many could ask, “Keith with all of this going on, what stops you from doing something similar to Mr. Stack?” My response has been driven home to me in the last 24 hours. The difference is I have not lost my faith in God. I realize He is sovereign and in control of even my hardships. I realize I am not beyond His grasp during these trying times. He is there beside me every step of the way.

If the President Calls, Tell Him We Went to Vegas.

Most of us have enough sense to know whether or not we should buy a boat or take a trip to Vegas. What Obama doesn’t like is the fact we have a choice at all. He would rather control all our money and dole out only what he thinks we need. Under his plan, there would be no boat or trips to anywhere, let alone Vegas. He would rather Washington have use of the money you choose for recreation or entertainment.

It Isn’t Sundown Yet.

This has been an amazing week in America. The United States Supreme Court upheld free speech in its ruling in the matter of a challenge to McCain-Feingold. On Tuesday of this week, voters surprised the Democratic Party by electing Republican Scott Brown to fill the Massachusetts Senate seat left vacant with the death of Ted Kennedy in August of 2009.

If This Is What You Call Recovery, Keep It!

If This Is What You Call Recovery, Keep It!

That is the point. The real purpose of the RAT act was to reward special interest groups with huge sum of money at the taxpayers expense. The reason I make this assertion is, of the total awarded so far, $139,377,946,601 of it has been in the form of grants.

Earth to Janet Napolitano

Earth to Janet Napolitano

Hello, what planet has she been living on since the founding of Al-Qaeda in1988? Or for that matter, just since September 11, 2001. The use of suicide bombers is part of their normal operations. It makes you wonder what the vetting process consisted of on her being selected and appointed to the position of head of the agency charged with protecting our nation from such attacks. Perhaps her answer on whether she was qualified for the position was, “no but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once.”

Take up the Gauntlet

Take up the Gauntlet

However, the health care vote has challenged my thinking and caused me to dig deeper into the danger of these actions and the remedy to them. I believe the gauntlet has been thrown down by those who are supposed to represent us. They have challenged us to engage in a contest for liberty in America. If we fail to take up the gauntlet they will continue to take on powers that are not theirs to exercise and our liberties will be lost.

Support Your Local Sheriff!

Support Your Local Sheriff!

Once in awhile I like a western comedy. An example of what I am talking about is, “Support Your Local Sheriff” (1969), starring James Garner. The movie is set in a frontier town in the Old West that springs up almost literally overnight when the rather klutzy and hotheaded Prudy Perkins discovers gold in a grave during a funeral. Most people in town are too busy digging to take time out to be sheriff, and those who are willing to put down their shovel quickly die. This all changes with the arrival in town of Jason McCullough. Needing money, McCullough demonstrates his uncanny firearms ability to the mayor and town council, and becomes the new sheriff.

The Thirty Tyrants of Washington, DC

The Thirty Tyrants of Washington, DC

The rule of the Thirty Tyrants of Athens is recorded in the annuls of ancient history. John Locke references them in The Second Treatise of Government as an example of when the power of government “is made use of to impoverish, harass, or subdue the governed to arbitrary and irregular commands of those that have it.” Locke says this is when it becomes tyranny whether it be by one member or by many.

Missouri and States Sovereignty

It is time to stress the importance of the rights and protections to be exercised by the several sovereign States afforded to these United States of America under the Tenth Amendment.

Mississippi’s Government Consolidation

Mississippi’s Government Consolidation

Early this year I wrote an article for the local alternative newspaper, The Jackson Free Press, calling for a consolidation of Mississippi’s very top-heavy government. Due to antiquated systems of drawing district and county lines, Mississippi is paying millions of dollars more for extra county supervisors and school superintendents (some of whom don’t even have schools in their district!)

The original article was greeted with much enthusiasm by people on both sides of the aisle.

Everyone loves ideas like government consolidation. At least until someone starts to talk specifics.

Recently, Governor Barbour has proposed drastic government cuts including consolidating several of the state’s smaller universities into larger ones. This idea has met with a lot of resistance.

The opposition to Barbour’s proposal is not about any true policy difference. Opposition to Barbour’s plan comes from the most vitriolic of partisan and racial politics which has plagued Mississippi for years and continues to suppress our state’s success.

Merging Mississippi State University and the Mississippi University for Women is a no-brainer. The schools are 25 miles apart. And since “the W” started accepting men there has been a major push to change its name and its image. The match is perfect.

Fear Can Destroy A Nation

Fear Can Destroy A Nation

Today we live in a dangerous and troubled world. We hear of terror attacks, wars, and natural disasters almost every time we turn on our TV or computer. We have leaders telling us the economy will recover while at the same time using America’s financial difficulties as an opportunity to take over auto makers and banks.

Run To The Battle

Run To The Battle

I am disappointed with the state of my Christian family in America. The fruit of the 1950’s-era prohibition of tax-exempt status for churches who engage in political activity has grown to maturity. After decades of being told they cannot address political issues and causes, many churches have gone silent on the great moral issues of the day.

As a consequence, many an average Christian has gone silent on the great moral issues of the day. With it not taught and modeled in out houses of worship, a lot of modern-day disciples are deaf and dumb in the face of PC encroachment. What used to be an understood stance by the Church at large is now called into question.

Servants of the People or Tyrants

Servants of the People or Tyrants

Today the debate over health care reform dominates the national news and conversations all across America. In most polls the American people reject the plan for government-run healthcare. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to really matter to the Obama Administration or the leadership of the House or Senate.

In the end the democratically controlled Congress seems hell-bent on passing what the people say they do not want. They are ignoring the outcry of the people and their outrage simply to pursue a policy which will cause one of the biggest tax increases in history. Are these elected officials functioning as elected servants of the people or have they become tyrants?
