Candidates’ Stances on Dealing with Russian Crisis By Michael A. Minton

There are many different solutions being floated about how best to deal with the Russian-Georgian conflict. Some good, some bad, some mediocre…and at least one that is totally off the wall.

The ones upon which we need to focus here are those proffered by our presidential candidates. Based on years of experience, both as a civilian leader and as a military fighting man who was also a P.O.W. for five plus years, one candidate, John McCain, has proposed that members of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) put together a peacekeeping force which could enforce peace in the region.

Our other presidential candidate, B. Hussein Obama, has a whole two years’ experience as a United States Senator, one year of which was spent campaigning for the job of President of the United States. Sen. Obama draws on all of his vast YEAR of experience, and he, too, has a proposal.

Sen. Obama proposes that we should call In the UN Security Council to pass a resolution that would immediately end the violence. And, as the Associated Press reports, Mr. Obama “also thinks a U.N. mediator should join efforts to try to end the fighting.”

Nato was created to deal with aggression from the East Bloc. Nato is there to DEMAND a cease-fire.

B. Hussein Obama, on the other hand, wanted to call on the U.N. to keep the peace between Russia and Georgia. Umm…one problem with that masterful plan, Mr. Obama. Russia hols a permanent seat on the United Nation’s Security Council. This would, of course, mean that Russia has INSTANT VETO POWER!!!

Yes, President-wanna-be Obama, whatever sanctions you may want to be used as an incentive to control those big, bad Russians…well, they can and WILL be swiped away with the casting of a single vote.

I cannot believe that this is the best the Democrats have to offer at a time as perilous as this for America. What happened, Democrats? Did you finally decide to go all the way and send out your own agent of destruction?

If the man doesn’t know that Russia is a permanent member on the UNSC, something that even a fifth-grader should know, what else is there that you DON”T  KNOW…either about domestic or foreign politics? This is NOT a job that can afford you the luxury of on-the-job training. We just can’t afford that…especially at the crossroads at which we find ourselves.

We need a man who has been involved with the government for more than one year.  Of the two candidates still standing, I think there can be no doubt that we NEED JOHN McCain!
