Below the Radar

radarI can’t tell you how disappointed I am in the media. I can’t tell you how frustrated and let down I am with our “leaders”. I can’t tell you how much I wish we had a few people lined up, tied to posts with blindfolds on, awaiting the words “Ready… Aim… FIRE!”

When the Haditha “massacre” occurred, there was no shortage of liberal politicians lining up to get as much tube-time as possible, as far as I can tell, for the sake of pure political hand wringing and accusatory partisan advantage. The worst of those was John Murtha.

However, this last week, yet another Marine (Lance Cpl. Stephen B. Tatum) was exonerated when charges were dropped in the case. In fact, the ONLY Marine left facing charges is SSG Frank D. Wuterich. This means, without fanfare, nearly every Marine has been exonerated from ‘massacring’ innocent Iraqi civilians, and all the while, people like Murtha have not had to re-examine their positions and accusations and face the American public in the press. In fact, I think we could make the agument that the press is not interested in the story, as it does not ’sell papers’ or ad time, and does not fit their agenda.

(Ed note: Wuterich is suing Murtha for libel.)

Just to refresh the memories of those not familiar, Murtha, in response to the Haditha incident, said “There was no firefight. There was no IED (improvised explosive device) that killed those innocent people,” Murtha said during the television appearance. “Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them. And they killed innocent civilians in cold blood. That is what the report is going to tell.”

What we know so far is, NOT ONE Marine has been convicted, three have been exonerated, and not one time has Murtha come out and apologized.

Will we ever really know what happened that day? I don’t know. I do care about justice, but I also I think that the only real, known injustice here is the immediate accusation and trial and conviction by men as unhealthy for our Country as John Murtha.

Were he younger, and not such a feeble looking soul, I would suggest the harshest of punishments for him. What really ought to happen to this sorry old fool is he should be put out to pasture. But hoping that the Democrats that put him into office have any sense is like hoping that mirage on the edge of the desert has a real can of water for you.

Remember that the Democrats prop Murtha up as an official expert on the military, and some kind of hero. This is a different kind of war hero than I remember… a different kind of Patriot. The kinds of patriots I remember are not portrayed by actions that are represented by those who will immediately fold to political advantage for the sake of scoring points that might in fact hurt your Country.

Murtha needs to be the man he claims to be- the man his party claims him to be… and he needs to come out and apologize to the exonerated Marines, the Marines in general, and the American people for his knee jerk slander of the Armed Forces.

There was no shortage of coverage when this story broke. And were one or more of the Marines convicted by this point, the coverage would have exploded, again, like it did when the report first surfaced. But it is amazingly silent when charges are dropped.

Shame on our press, and our politicians. Shame on them for not standing by our troops when they are exonerated for crimes that those same politicians and press agencies who made their money and political statements at the expense of our troops…
