Obama’s Gamble

Attempting to clean up the aftermath of Jeremy Wright…

Barack Obama is going to be appearing at a television screen near you. Mr. “avoid the news media” is scheduled to be on a variety of shows in the coming days, presumably in an attempt to clean up the image damage left in the wake of what I will call “Jeremy Wright’s racism perpetuation campaign”. Oh, yeah… I should say “talk shows”, not hard news shows… Those people ask hard questions.

It seems as though Obama has a few new problems as well. One is this new revelation of a super delegate who supports Obama, who sounds as racist in his rants as Wright did; and another is the comment he made about his grandmother today.

The real problem for Obama is that he has nothing to “turn the page” to. The news cycle is not providing adequate cover for him (meaning, there are no powerful political issues for him to latch onto), so he is forcing the issue by exposing himself to media interviews. But, these will be primarily on talk shows, where he can be insulated from the hard line of questioning the press would give him, and dictate and control the direction of the conversation- at least to a much greater extent than he can with the press.

But at the same time, even with off-the-cuff remarks in non-pressure situations, he runs great risk of putting his foot in his mouth, as he did today:

“”If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn’t know, there’s a reaction that’s been bred into our experiences that don’t go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way.”

Obama also called grandma “a typical white person” in the lead in to this comment. The problem I have with this is that he is, again, making a leap of “comparative excuse” without noting that there is a huge difference between a racist old lady walking down the street who had it bred into her psyche by parents and experiences, and a pastor who is supposed to love Jesus, love people, forgive, and is also the spiritual LEADER of hundreds.

If this is the best Obama can do, thinking on his feet, I am again lowering my impression of him. He is a wonderful speech maker. He has that down solid. I am not so sure he is presidential material, though, now that we are seeing his weaknesses. No wonder he hides from the press.

Walk, not talk…

Obama’s choice to go on a media blitz, as I stated, is potentially going to be his downfall. He will be picking scabs and running the risk of putting his foot in his mouth- while at the same time not reaching the people who really matter in politics- and that is people like you, who feed on news and not pop culture.

Put another way, I have some advice for Obama. You don’t “talk” your way out of this one, you “walk” your way out. Your actions how are going to speak louder than words. Any past actions you can summon might help as well. You do something that shows, no, proves, you are not racist. You DO something that shows you have worked hard on projects that clearly transcended race and might have even benefited NON blacks solely.

Again, I come back to the flag lapel pins and the hand on heart while the pledge or National Anthem is being played—–

You don’t do everything you do as a leader because YOU think it is right… you do SOME things as a leader because that is the RIGHT thing to do for the people you are leading…

Obama, I am afraid, is not a leader. Leaders make their own trouble, by taking chances and making decisions, not from hiding from challenge (press) or by inhereting the problems of others around them (”Rev.” Wright).

This leads us to our next topic:

Obama for VP!!!

The damage has been done, and it might not be “un-doable”.

CBS polling reports a large defection of Independent voters FROM Obama to McCain. According to Fox News, 35% of ALL voters have doubts about Obama regarding this racial issue. The numbers are FAR higher when you look just at whites, and virtually non-existent when you look at blacks. Imagine that. I am sooooo surprised.

According to Rasmussen, Obama has lost 11 points to McCain since this racist pastor story broke. Consequently, one can see a raise in support for Hillary during the same time period.

In addition, prior to the scandal of Jeremiah Wright, Rasmussen had Clinton at 42%, and Obama at 50%. Right after the surfacing of the Wright racism, but before Obama’s “repair my image” speech, Obama was at 45% and Clinton was at 44%.

NOW- after his speech, Obama is at 44%, as is Clinton…

Obama, while he has perhaps stopped the bleeding, is still lying on the floor unconscious in shock. Playing to daytime talk shows is NOT going to get him out of this, or do anything to repair his image, at least not to a degree that he will clearly march into the nomination.

I have said in here, several times, that Obama is going to win the nomination. I am not so sure now. And I also stated that he would NEVER accept the VP nomination from Hillary.

Were you to suggest some time ago that we would be talking about Obama losing this race based ON race, I don’t think anyone would have taken that position. This current situation has scarred him far more than I think even HE would have anticipated, and HE knew about Wright.

SO I am going out on a limb again… and suggesting the following scenario IS possible…

Clinton will establish, through winning in the next couple of months, enough doubt that Obama is the best general election candidate, based on popular vote and pledged/won delegate count. She will then offer Obama, officially, the VP.

Contrary to what I have said earlier in this blog, Obama might accept. He may see it as his only chance to “repair” his image and be President, as he would possibly have 4 or 8 years to “show” with action to the American people that he is not a supporter of any racist views.

I would expect that it is also possible for Clinton to offer this long before Denver, simply for the reason of ending the ugliness sooner rather than later- AND- this would also make Florida and Michigan moot, which would go a long way towards just getting those folks to forget how badly their own party just screwed them.

But of course, as a conservative, I prefer to see this go tooth and nail to Denver. And then we can watch the riots erupt if Obama loses anything… anything at all…

Ron Paul Supporters Feel Snubbed

Imagine that.

Feeling snubbed while in the race, they expect that to change now that they are out of it. They screamed about being snubbed the whole way to their defeat. The man never got more than 3% support nationally, and rarely was above that in the State by State contests. I think, off the top of my head, he won Nevada and another State. Or did he get second in Nevada? In almost all other States, he pretty much tanked at around 2-6%.

The new complaint is that the McCain campaign has not “reached out” to them to ask them for their support, or to try to mine their database for donors, emails, etc…

Said Paul himself, “We don’t agree with them,” he says. “We agree with the Old Right, and they’re the New Right, which is ‘The Wrong,’ [because] the New Right has morphed into neo-conservative.”

Now, wait a minute… didn’t you just say you are disappointed nobody is kissing your ass? But you also in the next breath want to complain that you don’t agree with them, and then say they are “The Wrong”?

With this kind of logic, it is no wonder you fell short by about 96-97% when it comes to voters thinking you had a full deck…

David Paterson comes clean, again…

Remember, Eliot Spitzer and his”whore” who did not want to be seen as a “monster”? You might also remember that Spitzer’s replacement, Lt. Governor David Paterson admitted, immediately after obtaining office, that he had had several affairs on his wife. Well, that was a day or two ago, and today is today…

Paterson came out today and said he might have used campaign money to pay for hotel rooms while he as cheating on his wife.

Now, I am not piling on because this guy is a Democrat. I would be beating on this idiot were he a Republican, like Larry Craig. So don’t misunderstand me when I say:

“Hey- idiot… come clean, all at once. Now. Today. Get it allllll out of your system. We can’t tolerate several days of looking at your dang mug in the news, telling us of one more mistake you made. If you want to call your grandmother racist, go for it. It is the soup du jour. If you cheated on an exam… spill it. If you tied a knot wrong in the Boy Scouts, I want to know about it tomorrow… and let’s be DONE with it!”

Rant over…

Sniff on that potpourri for a while… more soon…
