Snowbound Yooper rekindles the American Dream!
Stories that my grandfather told me about growing up in the 1930s in northern Michigan on a farm made me realize what we’ve lost in the past two generations. They got all their water from a creek nearby. They had plant and harvest enough potatoes and vegetables for a family of ten and cut enough firewood to make it through the winter. Everyone worked hard to survive and no one took anything for granted. As a foster parent, my wife and I have seen just the opposite. The family structure breaking down, children being abused and abandoned. That legacy is passed from one generation to the next. I think that to make a grassroots change in restoring the American Dream we have to instill the traditional family values in our children. They must know the importance of hard work, helping one another, and appreciating what they have. When children learn to put the needs of others before themselves for their family, they learn to do so for their country as well. We pray that we can raise a new generation to put an end to the selfish, narrow-minded ways of thinking and restore conservative values in our country. God be with you all,
