Seriously, Are we really that lazy of a Republic that we need to set term limits for our elected officials?
A term limit is a legal restriction that limits the number of terms a person may serve in a particular elected office. Term limits are found usually in presidential and semi-presidential systems as a method to curb the potential for dictatorships, where a leader effectively becomes “president for life“. There are different types of term limits. Sometimes, there is an absolute limit on the number of terms a person can serve, while, in other cases, the restrictions are merely on the number of consecutive terms a person can serve.
Are we so inept as a Republic that we feel that we can not take back our backyards, raise the needed money and support for our elected officials who uphold our ideals and values and keep tyranny and corruption from our government?
Personally, I think term limits are the height of laziness on part of the activist and the American citizen.
Term limits affect all elected officials, even ours.
That is right, even ours. If our Conservative citizens would not be so lazy serving as a citizen right in their backyard, they would understand all the time, effort and money that goes into electing one of our own into elected office. Term limits would mean that our beloved Michele bachmann would after this term, not be able to serve our District and represent my value and ideals in our nations capital. That my friends would not only be a travesty but also even more work for those of us who want our ideals and values represented in the beltway of bewilderment.
That would mean that our time, money and resources would have to be diverted from other elected official elections back to the seat that Bachmann holds today.
I would rather pour our resources and effort into ridding the Socialist Squirrels that now stank up these other seats in office and put those butts that hold our ideals and values in them.
Being for Term Limits is an oxymoron to the Conservative that believes in less government intervention.
McCain~Feingold has really made it almost impossible for the regular citizen to attain elected office. It was a piece of trash legislation meant to hold onto Tyranny and Corruption and keep you and I out of their way. This needs to be recalled and taken off the books but without Representation, it will never happen.
I asked my Representative why candidates do not run, get elected and spend their whole term just repealing law. To me, that is what an elected official today should strive to do. He told me matter a fact, that each bill has a constituency that worked to enact the law in the first place. So if they were powerful enough then to enact it, they will probably be strong enough to make your political career miserable. I thought to my self, “yeah, so? Who are we electing? Pansies?” But I did see his point and now knowing the fickle nature of such a lazy Conservative voting public, his point was not lost upon me.
Sun Tzu in the Art of War emplored that you never go into battle unless you are assured a decisive victory. Why would any elected official, even our own go into a battle that they had no hope of winning and no army to even lead into battle? This has to change.
Today we are electing good Americans into elected office, then letting them hang out on the line and we go back to our apathy. If we do not look in the mirror and realize that it is not the politician that is to blame for what we find in the political landscape today, but it is our fault. You see this is a Republic, that only works if good men and women Awaken, Stand Up, Step into Action and Affect the Political Landscape right in their very own Backyard!
We do not need any more government intervention today then we needed at the signing of our Constitution. The whole experiment was to limit government, not grow it.
Do you understand all that goes into running a candidate and winning an elected office? If you did you would think term limits are as laughable as I do. It really is a mantra that is telling where that citizen is in their awakening formula. It is an easy slogan to get behind if you have just awakened, and have not yet thought it through. This is why I am writing this post so that the next time you grab a sign and chant what ever the group think is chanting you will know if this group is as adept in their knowledge and political strategy or are they stuck in a toddler’s understanding of what this Representative Republic is today.
Term Limits sound plausible at first, but if you understand the enormous effort that it takes to get our elected officials elected, support them during their term and then to get them re-elected and actually take on the Socialist Squirrels, you would know it is just another tactic that the Socialist Squirrels try to utilize to divide and conquer Conservatives.
Third parties seem to hold onto this mantra with all the gusto they can. Don’t get me wrong, third, fourth, fifth parties are needed, but they are truly an exercise in futility. Hell, even the Socialists realized this early in the 1900’s. They found out that the two party system was the political landscape. It was easier to overtake one or both of the parties then to get any traction as a third party. They reinvented themselves as the Non Partisan League and deceived the farmer and enslaved the worker with the IWW. They overtook the Republican Party and in the 1916-17 they took over the young state of North Dakota and spread far and wide. If not for E. W. Everson and his Independent Voters Association that united Conservatives from the Republican, Democrat and Independent parties recalling the very first Governor in US History in 1921, America would of turned fully Socialist Squirrel so much sooner then today.
Today it is our time, to Awaken and take a good look at this political landscape. Stand Up not for Term Limits and stinking thinking that divides us, but Step Into Action on those key issues that unite us all and by affecting the political landscape right in our own backyards, we will once again understand freedom and liberty that we were gifted with. Yet, every generation finds themselves fighting to maintain.
Let’s put down the Term Limit mantra, and instead unite behind our ideals of smaller Government, Spending limits, torte reform, liberty and freedom for all.

Robert Davis was a great representative, but, late in his career, he fell into the House Bank trap and was voted out of office.
Bob’s predecessor was a wise old gentleman whose name I can not recall at present. He could have stayed in office forever as far as I was concerned.
On the other end of the scale, there are anal orifices such as Kennedy, Conyers, Schumer, Reid, Dodd, Murtha and others we love to hate.
Is it really necessary to discard the statesmen with the demagogues? The voters could replace them every two or six years, but the don’t. Perhaps what we need is a combination of a voter qualification examination and a candidate qualification system that would weed out incompetent voters and corrupt & incompetent candidates.

We already have a candidate qualification system. We just don’t bother to make effective use of it. In most cases it’s called the party primaries.
Field good candidates in the primaries and defeat the ones that don’t represent you to get the ones that are bad off the ticket before the general election. That’s one of the only ways we’ll ever get rid of people like Olympia Snowe.
