The Oath of a Military Wife

I really wear this in public

Yes. I really do wear this in public.

Above my desk at work is a plaque with the words:

“I am fortunate to live, walk and breathe among the bravest of heroes.  I am a proud military wife.”

Military wives are a rare and special breed. We are fiercely protective of our husbands, our children and our country and, make no mistake, we will fight to the death to protect all three.

Lately, however, the threat we face is from our own commanders. From McChrystal’s disastrous and idiotic strategy in Afghanistan to the dereliction of duty by Major Nidal Hasan’s superiors, our men and women are being sacrificed to the gods of political correctness – their hands metaphorically tied behind their backs. Soldiers are getting more training in multiculturalism than in the difference between lawful and unlawful orders. They are subjected to “Sensitivity Training” so they will not make the mistake of offending anyone. (You know, like some jihadist headshrinker with pre-PTSD…)

With twelve of his soldiers lying dead at the hands of a terrorist, Army Chief of Staff General George Casey warned soldiers not to focus on the fact that Hasan was a muslim (yeah, I intentionally left it lowercase). Apparently, Casey fears that if the soldiers focus on the fact that Hasan is identical to the terrorists they are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, it could “heighten the backlash” against the jihadists hiding in plain sight amongst them.

And just when I’d decided that Casey must be knee-walking drunk to have made such an asinine statement, he added that diversity in the military, “gives us strength.” Then I decided he must be smoking crack.

And speaking of inebriated commanders, I would like to address the “McChrystal Rules of [non] Engagement.” The man must have been mainlining the Afghan opium when he came up with this “strategy”. The enemy could not have devised a better way to kill and maim our soldiers. The most ridiculous new rules cited in the Washington Times article, US Troops Battle Both the Taliban and Their Own Rules, were these:

  • No night or surprise searches. (Wouldn’t wanna disturb all those sexy Afghan ladies in the middle of their beauty sleep…)
  • Villagers have to be warned prior to searches. (It’s not proper etiquette to arrive unannounced, you barbaric Americans!)
  • ANA or ANP must accompany U.S. units on searches. (The ANA and ANP are the terrorists that switched sides when we rolled in. Good luck with that when we leave…)
  • U.S. soldiers may not fire at the enemy unless the enemy is preparing to fire first. (Translation: Let’s hope Achmed is having an “off day”…)
  • Troops can fire at an insurgent if they catch him placing an IED but not if insurgents are walking away from an area where explosives have been laid. (Translation: Cross your fingers and hope Achmed is having an “off week“…)
  • Only women can search women. (When did the US military decide to take women into combat? Sign me up. Oh, wait…did someone say something about rape being a form of jihad? Never mind.)
  • U.S. forces cannot engage the enemy if civilians are present. (Since they all look alike and even the men wear dresses, it’s a crapshoot.)

Someone should explain to McChrystal that that whole “winning hearts and minds” thing is so yesterday! Either that or show him some clips from Operation Frequent Wind.

All the sarcasm aside, this cluster (fill in the blank) we are in is deadly serious business.

I, for one, refuse to remain silent in the face of this dereliction of duty by our own commanders. I took an Oath before God the day I married my husband. This Oath is binding and only death will absolve my responsibility.

My Oath has always been this,

“I will support and defend my husband, my children and my God with my life. I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same. I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion. And that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of Wife, Mother and Christian with which I have been blessed. So help me God.”

This is the Oath taken by every faithful military wife, whether she speaks it aloud or with her heart. Our soldiers are our heroes, our rock stars and our best friends.  Their character is beyond reproach, their love of God, country and family is absolute.  They are valiant, steadfast, honorable, noble, principled and worthy of accolades.

Most importantly, they will adhere to the Oath they took in a manner that will forever reflect without blemish their promise to defend our Constitution, our Republic and our Liberty.

And so will we…

The stench of wickedness is omnipresent in our government, and it's spreading like wildfire throughout the land, threatening everyone in its path. Silence is consent and evil's ally. Light and truth its mortal enemy. Expose evil. Let your light shine as never before. Our great nation depends on it. ~Libz

Libz, I have not seen the list of McChrystal’s rules. I did notice though, that not long after Obama took office, the soldiers were vested in the “community” and they felt they could not fight the enemy. Then I saw a photo of female Marines donning headscarves UNDER THEIR HELMETS out of respect for the position of Afghan women – which is submission.

I thank you, your husband and family for your sacrifice. You have written a rousing good post.

Thank you! I should shoot you an email on the McChrystal strategy, as I am well acquainted with it.

It is as ludicrous as the “winning of hearts and minds” in Vietnam.

Reminds me of that old Country Joe and the Fish song…

And Bell, I could not imagine having to watch my child head to the cat-boxes, Iraq and Assghanistan, to fight the hajjis. I love you and your children for the sacrifices you make. I will keep all three of you in my prayers.
