Maggie,

I also remember those events, the Achille Lauro, the attacks at Rome and Vienna Airport. We were living in MIlan from 82-87. You would think by now the Euros would be fed up. If they are, their leaders don't speak for them.

Gary, the day Germany makes beer illegal, - well, that will be the day!

I noted your "ironies," and they are sobering. I also love Germany and lived there for a few years, in the Augsburg-Munich area, and have been fortunate to visit the country often since.

I remember a visit in 1985. We were coming to Italy from Germany. We planned to take a train from Venice to Florence, but some train tunnels were being blown up, so we drove.

Ten days after I arrived back in the U.S. the TWA hijacking in Rome happened. We were staying on the via Veneto right next to the American Embassy. Each night we enjoyed gelato at an outdoor cafe next to our hotel. At the same time of the hijacking, when one of our sailors was killed and dumped on the tarmack, a grenade was rolled inside our little ice cream cafe, killing 9 people. Another airline office in Rome was bombed at the same time, as well as the Frankfurt airport. In October the Achille Lauro happened.

All of the above was Islamic terrorism. We don't pay attention.

The next year I was in Spain on a business trip. While in Madrid, the U.S. bombed Libya. My "hosts" put us on a flight to the Canary Islands, pronto.

It has been scary for a while now.

Socialism...How is that working for you Europe?

Great Post Gary! And a Powerful image! As always you lay out the cause and effect so well!

I can see the same problems here in America with the now majority of Government teet suckers that have traded their Freedom and Liberty for Hope and Change.

I Think we have a ton of work to do!

Great post Gary!
